As a result of the analysis of the blood samples obtained from the individuals before and at the end of their laboratory studies, final levels of methemoglobin has been found higher than the initial ones except 6 in 117 individuals in all of laboratories.
From the point of view of being effected from the substances that may form methemoglobin, no statistically significant difference between the two sexes were observed.
Although the final methemoglobin levels were higher than the initial ones, these levels were not high enough to be assumed to be clinically significant.
Among the working groups in different student laboratories namely qualitative and quantitative inorganic analysis (Group I), quantitative organic analysis (Group II), qualitative organic analysis (Group III) and organic substance synthesis (Group IV), the difference between the averages of initial and final methemoglobin levels of individuals were found to be statistically significant in all except the group of quantitative organic analysis laboratory.
